Delivering critical spatial infrastructure like satellites efficiently and without accidents requires reliable and cost-effectivedesign of rockets including its significant subsystem called rocket motor casings. Rocket motor casings require highstrengthmaterials, but often times high strengthalso means low fracture toughness leading to brittle fractures of material
well under the material’s strength. In this article, we present maraging steel application as a suitable material, and discuss
its mechanical properties that make it ideal for the design of rocket motor casings.
